The fog had lifted just enough by sunrise to reveal paths and ditches that were new to my eyes. My mind was reeling from the storm the night before, which had left my ears ringing in the stillness of the dawn. The murky daylight filled my heart with dismay, for my map and my compass had been blown far away. I’ll have to find my own way now, there’s no-one to guide me. I’ll stumble blindly on and on; perhaps someone can find me. My strange surroundings have a beauty of their own, complemented by the music of the distant breeze’s moan. It could seduce me to remain here instead, but I know if I succumbed, I would very soon be dead. I must pursue a dream, a target, an idea; no matter how vague or distant, I cannot stagnate here. But every step I take, the target seems to shift the idea seems to drift, the dream becomes a nightmare. Can I attain the wisdom to reveal my achieving or the strength to believe in what I know to be true. Striving on alone, I need the guidance of a sign until I’m strong enough to find a certain answer to my prayer… I wander aimlessly across this empty ground, never knowing my direction. I can’t even hear a sound. The swirling mist creates illusions shapes and lines giving clues and conundrums to disorient my mind. Some day in the future I’ll look back at this and grin at all the torment caused by the predicament I’m in. But while I’m occupied in looking for a sign, my wishes turn to failure and intense frustration! When is the world on my side? Why this constant aggravation? Can I ever start rebuilding what I seek to destroy? How can I tell right from wrong? What difference does it make? Which way to turn? Who can show to me an answer to my prayer? Just as my patience runs out, it finally rewards me. Still shrouded by a distant haze, a guiding light before me. Is this the end of troubled times, or start of new adventure? What trials will it bring my way? What pain? What pleasure? Life’s invitations must be challenged, so don’t hide! Go, like the Master said, “Seek and you shall find”
